the big ride
sorry that i haven't posted until today about my trip up north, but i got back on sunday night and just woke up today.
friday night, i headed up to see nowak and andy peddle 192 miles for the fight against cancer. i got a late start and hit a little traffic, but after about four hours i was somewhere in connecticut. the ride wasn't as fun as some of the rides louie and i have taken in the past. i'm not sure if it is because i was by myself or if i missed all the stops we usually make. i tip toed into the room around 12:30 and was asleep by 1:00. nowak was sawing wood all night long, so i wasn't able to get much sleep before the 4am wake up call.
while the fellas were warming up and stretching, kel, val and i all grabbed the complimentary breakfast at the hotel. it wasn't the usual, they actually had a better meal than some of the meals i have eaten at 3am from the diamond diner. after stealing the restroom sign and a short trip into some town, we set up our seats and were ready to root on the bikers.
beings it was a little before 7am and we had all kinds of noise makers, the locals didn't seem to like us. it was great when one of the locals approached us and asked if there was some kind of parade or something. yeah, a parade and we came this effing early to get a good seat.
after a few honks of the horns and cheers by super fans kel and val, team NOW-DON finally made it up the hill and made a quick pit stop to say hello. they then peddled off and we were on to the next stop to meet up with the cleverdons, tc and cc. if it wasn't for the mad map reading skills of val, we may have been lost country side, but she got us there with about a minute to spare. we unfolded the chairs and in rode team CLEVER-WAK.
off again, but this time we made a few stops before we met up with mr and mrs nowak. it was a pleasure getting to meet grandpop, who they also brought with them. for some reason, i felt like someone was missing, but i just couldn't figure out who it was. we downed a couple p, b and j sandwiches, high fived a couple riders and once again team KANDY huffed and puffed into the water stop.
now it was on to the finally stop of the day. once we set up camp there, we met with tc and cc once again and we were found by nick and jules. 111 miles in and day one came to an end. thank effing god, i was damn tired.
the boys had to grab a shower and get a message so we stupidly decided to head to cape cod. it was the time of the day where all the renters were leaving and or coming in for the next week and we wound up sitting in traffic for two and a half hours. five people deep in a truck that was having a bit of a problem with it's ac is no fun. we headed back picked up the riders and went to grab a little food.
after dinner tc and cc were nice enough to let us stay at their place on the cape. we were all dragging so we decided to make an early night of it and catch a few hours of sleep before tc's 6am wake up call.
round two and 80 more miles ahead of team NEVERDON. it seemed that once over the bridge in to the cape, it was a much easier ride to p-town. then again, i guess that's easy to say for a guy that sat in a lounge chair tooting a horn all weekend. once again we stopped early in the ride in brewster town and woke up the neighborhood with the loud arss air horn, then headed to p-town for the end of the ride.
val, kel and i had a little time to waste before meeting up with the nowak's, minus one, so we took a walk around the famous town of p. for those of you that didn't read the missing e-nowak's comment last week, p-town is a gathering place for the feggs. i am very secure with my manhood and had no problem visiting this town. After all, i must admit, it was a very interesting place and i wish i had more time to spend in p-town. it kind of reminded me of some parts of key west, but with more stores and much more nicely decorated...i wonder why.
the men peddled through the finish line hand in hand and very deservingly proud to have finished the ride. they set out to raise a nice chunk of change, train for a long arss ride and then complete it, and that they did. they should be proud, many lives will be changed because of andy and kevin, as well as the other riders and all the people that donated for this cause.
after being there to watch this ride, i now know what i will be doing to help out. within the next few months, i will be purchasing a bike and will begin training for team PAPPLE'S NOW-DON. sorry to steal the spotlight guys, but if you don't like it we can always call the team, PAPPLE'S CLEVERWANKIN. let me know.
not being rookies anymore, we will have it all planned out and may possibly be renting a house on the cape. all i ask is that we have a ton of people show up...especialy our sisters.

Patrick's P-Town quote, "I have never felt so safe with two women."
Also, I just want to thank Patrick again for making the long trip up...it meant so much to Kevin and I. Now that we have a year under our belts, hopefully next year we can get a big, loud (with a bull horn) cheering section going.
Indeed Papple...very dissapointing that she didn't show. Maybe if you keep on her though she'll just decide to ride in it next year!
Kev,
Does EWAK still do physical activity?
kel- wouldn't have missed it. had a great time.
e-nowak- if the shoe fits...
nowak- i think we have a better chance of picking up another rider if the date of the race doesn't cut into one's precious beach time.
You can count me in for the cheering section for next year's ride....
Ah yeah...I was in DC, a bit harder to get up to Boston for soccer match back then. However, I do believe I made the drive up to Strong Island at 3am one Saturday morning from DC! Eat that.
